Robofest Oman: The Premier Autonomous Robotics Championship
The Lawrence Technological University Scholarship Pathway
One of the most defining features of Robofest is its unparalleled integration with higher education. Robofest serves as a direct pipeline to prestigious academic scholarships at Lawrence Technological University in the United States.
The scholarship opportunities available to participants are life-changing:
Participant Scholarships
High school seniors who have participated in Robofest at any time, in any division, and plan to attend LTU for any degree program can apply for a $3,000 annual renewable scholarship, totaling $12,000 over four years.Champion Scholarships
Unprecedented financial support is awarded to the top minds at the World Championship. Each team member of the top three Senior Division teams in the Exhibition, RoboArts, and RoboMed categories receives massive scholarship packages to attend LTU. First place earns a $20,000 annual scholarship ($80,000 over four years), second place earns $16,000 annually ($64,000 over four years), and third place earns $14,000 annually ($56,000 over four years).

Welcome to the official home of Robofest Oman, organized by STEAM Leaders. Robofest is far more than a standard robotics tournament; it is a comprehensive educational platform that challenges students to push the boundaries of their engineering, coding, and scientific research skills. Launched in 1999 by Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Michigan, USA, Robofest has grown into an established international phenomenon where over 40,000 students from more than 35 countries have competed on the global stage.
Open to innovators from Grade 4 through college, Robofest completely transforms the traditional competitive robotics landscape. Unlike other tournaments that rely on remote controls, Robofest strictly emphasizes fully autonomous robotics, advanced problem-solving, and computer programming without any human intervention during competition rounds. Students must engineer machines capable of "thinking" for themselves using sensor data and dynamic logic. By participating in Robofest, Omani students engage directly with the advanced technologies highlighted in Oman Vision 2040, mastering the real-world computational thinking required for the future of the global workforce

Oman on the Global Podium: A Legacy of Excellence
Omani schools have already proven that they can compete—and win—at the highest international levels. During the 2026 season, the national Robofest qualifier was successfully held at OurPlanet International School. The winning team advanced to the Robofest World Championship in the United States, achieving a monumental victory for the Sultanate.
The Omani student team secured third place globally in the highly competitive Senior RoboMed category. Their project, named "BIOREACT," was an autonomous medical assistant designed to solve complex healthcare challenges. For their incredible innovation, the students were awarded a $56,000 LTU scholarship certificate. This historic achievement demonstrates the immense potential of our local youth and sets a powerful benchmark for all incoming competitors as we prepare for the upcoming national competition in March 2027.

Robofest Competition Categories
Robofest offers a diverse array of competition tracks tailored to different interests, from the visual arts to healthcare engineering. Teams generally compete in the Junior division (Grades 5-8) and the Senior division (Grades 9-12). Roboparade features specialized age brackets, opening the competition to even younger innovators with an Explorer division (Grades 1-4) and a Junior division (Grades 5-8).
Below is a detailed breakdown of the official categories. Each category features real footage from previous competition years showing the robots in action, alongside a direct link to download the official technical rulebook.
Roboparade
The Challenge: Autonomous navigation and thematic design.
Divisions: Explorer (Grades 1-4) and Junior (Grades 5-8).
Designed specifically to introduce younger students to complex robotics, Roboparade involves highly decorated, fully autonomous robots following a designated path in a vibrant, parade-style exhibition. This category features the Explorer division (Grades 1-4) and the Junior division (Grades 5-8), showcasing student creativity in both vehicle design and navigational programming. Robots must reliably track lines, detect obstacles, stop when necessary to avoid collisions with other parade floats, and execute programmed routines. It is an excellent entry point for learning sensor integration and logic loops within a highly engaging, collaborative environment.

RoboArts
The Challenge: The intersection of engineering and the creative arts.
Divisions: Junior (Grades 5-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12)
RoboArts shatters the boundary between STEM and the humanities by blending autonomous robotics with creative visual or performing arts. In this visually stunning category, students are challenged to design unique mechanical art pieces that perform on stage. Whether it is a robot that paints a canvas, a synchronized robotic dance troupe, or an animatronic musical performance, the focus is on aesthetic impact powered by complex engineering. Teams must demonstrate how their programming controls timing, spatial awareness, and creative expression, proving that coding is as much an art form as it is a science.

BottleSumo
The Challenge: Head-to-head autonomous tactical engineering.
Divisions: Junior (Grades 5-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12)
Battle Sumo is an electrifying, high-stakes category featuring head-to-head competition where two autonomous robots are placed in a competitive ring. In this challenge, autonomous robots compete to push bottles and each other off the table or be the last robot remaining. Utilizing advanced sensors and mechanical pushing force, robots must autonomously locate, engage, and force targets and opponents out of the ring. This category is a rigorous test of physics, weight distribution, gear ratios, and aggressive sensor logic. Students must program their robots to detect the edge of the table to avoid self-elimination while simultaneously tracking the opponent's movements in real-time. It requires rapid iteration, precise hardware construction, and robust algorithmic coding.

RoboMed
The Challenge: Healthcare and medical innovation.
Divisions: Junior (Grades 5-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12)
RoboMed is a highly specialized category that showcases innovative medical and healthcare robotics solutions created by students. Teams are tasked with designing and programming practical, functional prototypes explicitly intended to assist patients or healthcare professionals. This category requires extensive scientific research, human-centered design thinking, and advanced programming. Judges evaluate the real-world viability of the prototype, the complexity of the code, and the team's entrepreneurial presentation. It is the perfect category for students interested in biomedical engineering and the future of medical technology.

Exhibition
The Challenge: Open-ended, project-based engineering.
Divisions: Junior (Grades 5-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12)
The Exhibition category is the ultimate showcase of unconstrained innovation. Unlike the rigid parameters of Game challenges, the Exhibition track allows students complete freedom to identify a real-world problem of their choosing and invent a fully autonomous robotic system to solve it. Teams operate like a startup company: they must conceptualize the solution, build the hardware, write the code, and pitch their working prototype to a panel of expert judges.

Prepare for the Global Stage
Robofest is open to everyone—whether you are representing a school, a private robotics club, an after-school program, or an independent team of aspiring engineers. STEAM Leaders is committed to providing comprehensive support, training frameworks, and localized resources to help all participants across Oman succeed.
